I got the Doily Floral Peasant Top for my 5 month Old, Edie, and am loving how the bright fall colors look on her. I adore this pattern, with it’s delicate floral renderings and complex layers. It got me thinking of paper doilies and how simple yet elegant they are. And that got me thinking of all the different crafts you can potentially make with basic paper doilies or vintage fabric doilies!
Here is a roundup of some of my fun finds, mostly dug up on Pinterest. (Btw, have you checked out Zutano on Pinterest?) Here is a great post on Craft, Interrupted with a lot of good fall craft ideas in addition to a mantle banner made out of leaf-shaped doilies. And here’s another pretty banner idea from Happiness is Homemade. This kids craft project involves painting plain white doilies with water colors. Lovely.
This “Doily Star Project” from Happy Home is so pretty, and so easy! I can imagine using colored doilies for it as well. And here is an extra long and inventive doily post from Oh My! Creative–a roundup of 30 different doily crafts. They are mostly for adults, but I can see doing this hanging fabric doily mobile from Lemon Tree Creations with children. It would be a fun way to get them playing around with textures, combining fabric and paper doilies, then you can hang it above your child’s bed after you’ve assembled it for them.
Isn’t Pinterest just the best for finding innovative craft projects? Have fun and happy crafting!
